Staff Accountant (Temporary)

Overview:

Bergen's Promise is the Care Management Organization (CMO) of Bergen County as part of the New Jersey Children's System of Care. We are a rapidly growing, mission driven, non-profit social service agency. We are accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF).

Bergen's Promise serves youth up to age 21 and their families. The youth we serve are experiencing serious behavioral, emotional, mental health, substance use challenges and/or developmental disabilities.

Responsibilities:

The staff accountant is responsible for preparing and reviewing financial documents, reports, and statements. They will also oversee all accounting procedures while advising on general finance matters. This knowledge can apply across the company as needed, such as in budgeting or cash flow management techniques

  • Codes invoices, sets up new accounts, reconciles accounts, and closes the monthly books.
  • Expense reporting.
  • Resolving vendor discrepancies & solving billing issues.
  • Reconciles bank accounts at least monthly, verifies deposits, and addresses inquiries from banks.
  • Reconciles cash disbursement accounts, payroll, customer accounts, and other financial accounts.
  • Verifies and/or completes payment of invoices associated with accounts payable and ensures payments are charged to the appropriate accounts.
  • Provides outside auditors with assistance; gathers necessary account information and documents to perform annual audit.
  • Coordinates with software vendor to maintain accounting software systems; recommends updates to enhance the accounting software.
  • Maintains knowledge of acceptable accounting practices and procedures.
  • Performs other related duties/projects as assigned.

Qualifications & Skills:

To be considered for this role, you must possess:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, or related field, required.
  • At least two years of related experience required.
  • Must possess a valid Driver’s License
  • Must be able to work with all levels of agency staff and its committees, as appropriate.

  • Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks in a timely fashion in order to adhere to all deadlines required.
  • Knowledge of general financial accounting
  • Understanding of and the ability to adhere to generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Professional experience working with confidential and sensitive information.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite(excel), or similar software, QuickBooks, and accounting software.
