This July, Bergen’s Promise received a health education grant from ScreenNJ. Screen NJ, housed within the Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey works to educate New Jersey residents about the importance of cancer screening, early detection, and prevention.
The funding Bergen’s Promise received will support Health Promotion outreach activities through tabling events at schools and formal presentations for parents and caregivers throughout the coming year. All education activities will include a focus on vaping/tobacco prevention and cessation, including information on vaping and mental health, and a call to action to consider one’s cancer risk based on their personal experiences with tobacco and/or vaping. Be on the lookout for our health education team at local health fairs this year, sharing important information about vaping, testing your know how with a trivia wheel, and handing out fidget spinners to help you “take a deep breath and escape the vape!”
